I started teaching the kids in the slum areas near my college in Lucknow. For around three months, I was working day and night alone with the kids and the women there. Fortunately, many of my friends joined in and we came up with “The Hunar Foundation.” Hunar is now working in various cities of UP with a dedicated team of young minds. Our only aim is to eradicate the slums of our country completely.

MY JOURNEY
I have been listed in the ‘India book of records’ and bagged five world records and the count is still on!
I was always keen to help needy people. In college, I undertook numerous projects and assignments. In fact, my father wanted me to pursue a career in social work. But unfortunately, he passed away three years ago. It was abrupt and horrible for me. Family circumstances changed a lot. Everybody was expecting me to settle down. But, I knew my calling. I wanted to do something for the people and bring my father’s dream to life.
I started teaching the kids in the slum areas near my college in Lucknow. For around three months, I was working day and night alone with the kids and the women there. Fortunately, many of my friends joined in and we came up with “The Hunar Foundation.” Hunar is now working in various cities of UP with a dedicated team of young minds. Our only aim is to eradicate the slums of our country completely.
But unfortunately, with the current pandemic, everything came to a sudden halt. We were all locked up in our homes. The markets were running out of masks and many of the vendors and cleaning staff could not afford the hiked prices. That was when my mother and brother stepped in and we decided to help these people.
We sanitized old bedsheets and started stitching reusable three-layer cotton masks. I made more than 5000 masks alone. The word spread and soon I was in the news. Even the DM and SP approached me to provide skill training for mask-making to the lady constables. We inaugurated the first mask bank and distributed more than 10,000 masks.
A month ago my friend suggested me to apply for the records. And, I did! After a week of strict verification, I was selected. They are for making maximum number of masks in four hours and stitching the elastic supported mask in 2 minutes 46 seconds and strip supported mask in 3 minutes 45 seconds. And, when I saw those shields and badges with our national flag, I was speechless. I am representing India! It seems like a dream but I know, I still have a long way to go!
