Biography of Soumi Bhattacharjee

Soumi Bhattacharjee is a young Bengali folk singer and multi-instrumentalist from Barrackpore, North 24 Pargana, West Bengal, India. She was born on 29 August 2003. Her father’s name is Sri Bibhuti Bhattacharjee and mother’s name is Smt. Lili Bhattacharjee. She began her musical journey at a very young age. Her formal learning and practice in music started in 2006, and since then music has remained an important and integral part of her life.

From her childhood, Soumi developed a special interest in Bengali folk music and traditional musical instruments. With continuous practice, dedication and curiosity, she gradually expanded her musical abilities beyond vocal performance and began exploring a wide variety of musical instruments belonging to different families and traditions.

MUSICAL JOURNEY

Soumi's primary area of interest is Bengali folk music. She has a deep appreciation for the rich musical traditions and cultural heritage of Bengal. Her musical journey has been shaped by her interest in folk melodies, rhythms and traditional instruments.

Soumi has completed her M.A. in Education. Alongside her academic background in Education, she has continued to develop her musical knowledge and skills.She is currently pursuing her M.A. in Vocal Music at Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. Her higher studies in Vocal Music are helping her gain a deeper academic and practical understanding of music while continuing her journey as a performer.

The combination of academic education and musical training has helped Soumi develop a broader understanding of learning, creativity and artistic expression.
